The drum sound has accompanied humankind since the beginning of time.

It is in the heart of all spirit oriented cultures across the planet.

There is much that a drum can unlock, give access to within oneself.

It is an essential, ancient wisdom that comes through its vibration. It points to the sacred that wants to be shared, that is there to be listened to.

During this weekend you will use your hands to build your very own drum, in complete sacredness between you and the creation. This is a beautiful process and after this weekend you will bring with you your own drum, ready to create vibrations that touch your soul.

Words from the workshop facilitator:

I feel I'm still just touching upon the connection between hands, heart, mind and creation. We humans as a species were since forever depending on creating with our hands for our basic existence and it is only very shortly since this link is being disrupted.

When people enter my workshop, put their hands on the materials, the wood, the skin, the tools.. something very interesting happens. Like if something in them remembers, remembers this basic connection, communion between life and oneself through laying our hands on what nature provides and joining the creation.

It’s mesmerizing to witness this and it happens every time over and over again.

Different focus takes place, innocent joy when seeing that ‘It starts to look like a drum!’. The pride and satisfaction when (3 days later) holding a self made sacred instrument and then hearing it for the first time with the awareness of the whole journey and its challenges.

It is profound and very therapeutic.

It is an honor to be there for this as the teacher. Always.

During this weekend I offer my craftsmanship skills, knowledge and experience to support you in the process of creating your own music instrument.

There will be space to share what is on our hearts and minds, space for the

actual drum creation and possibly music playing in the evenings..

The work flow:

Friday

Arriving at 17:00.

Introducing ourselves to each other, sharing our intention, choosing skin and frame, soaking the skins in water.

All skin comes from Scandinavia and no animals are shot for the skin but is a leftover from regular hunting. The skins used are deer and reindeer, moose is optional on request beforehand.

The frames are mainly built by Filip himself, from wood from a local sawmill.

Saturday

From 9:00 until about 16:00-17:00

The main working day!

We build all day with brake for lunch

Possibility for a concert/sound journey in the evening

Sunday

From 9:30

Drum finishing, making a drum stick, Introduction into the drum how to use it.

Burying skin leftovers, giving thanks..

Finishing between 13-15:00

What to bring

I will provide the skins, frames and the tools, you only need to bring a big towel to have the wet skins on.

Price and booking your place

Price: 4400:- and includes all the materials (skin, frame, tuning system)

• Payment in cash is preferable but swish and payment is also optional.

Booking fee: 1200:- (800:-  of this is non refundable)

Rest is payed 1 week before or at the workshop
